JASEIN helped turn an existing acquaintance into a concrete research collaboration between
Valentina Fani (VU Amsterdam) and Xena Welch Guerra (RSM). While they already knew each other,
JASEIN provided a recurring and stimulating setting that allowed their connection to grow stronger
over time. Through repeated interactions across different JASEIN editions, they were able to exchange
ideas, explore shared research interests, and gradually build trust. This process ultimately led to
the decision to jointly develop a research paper.

I have learned a lot about Dutch academia from JASEIN. I would even say that the connections
I made and the input I received helped me to obtain my NWO Veni.

JASEIN helps me stay connected with other junior academics, not only by expanding my network
but also by maintaining the current connections I have. Participating in the event also makes
me realize that many challenges I face as an assistant professor in the Netherlands are common
among us, making it easier to learn from others instead of trying to solve these challenges on
my own. Lastly, getting to know the trajectories and success stories within this community
motivates me to persist and grow professionally.

Patricia and I got to know each other at JASEIN 2025. During a research exchange event, we were matched based on shared interests. In a rapid
“speed-dating” style format, we started to ask the question: what is the role of the board of directors in lobbying, and how do they make
sense of the need to lobby? The project has now developed into a working paper that will be presented at AOM in Philadelphia this year.
